Bring back that new computer feeling!
To help you become self-sufficient, we want you to get "started off on the right foot" by doing initial cleanup and adjustments to remove the obstacles to good performance. While we're at it,
we'll show you how. It's
much easier to learn on a system which is working properly.
Check and Repair File System Errors
Your computer manages files and folders using a File System. If corrupted, it can be a major cause of system instability.
Cleanup
We work with you to recover hard disk space by removing unneeded files and optionally compressing files which are seldom used, and to speed up your system by removing unneeded software. Learn the value of
keeping files in your Recycle Bin; and why your files should not be deleted or compressed just because they are "old".
Check and Repair Core System Files and Registration
Core files and Registry entries, which keep your Windows Operating System running smoothly, are sometimes inadvertently deleted, corrupted, or even replaced with strange versions by third party software or computer viruses.
Defragmentation
Over time, as files and folders are created or modified on your hard drive, they gradually become fragmented - Windows writes small pieces of data wherever it will fit. To use such a file, Windows must first collect the pieces - a time consuming process, compared to reading a "one piece" file.
You may not notice it, but Windows constantly performs background work with files. The symptoms are gradual: your system seems to be working harder, yet it is less responsive.
Apply Critical Windows Updates
Microsoft regularly issues free updates to its Windows Operating Systems and other products to make improvements, to fix programming errors, or to patch security holes. Unfortunately, too many people suffer program faults, compatibility issues, and exposure to computer viruses because they fail to use this simple update process.
Establish Current System Security
If you're the only one using your computer, and you keep it locked in a vault when you're away, and you never copy or install anything to it from an external source, and you never connect it to any external communication device, then your computer is probably secure.
Otherwise, you need to password protect your accounts (including the hidden one); you need a current version of the best security software, and regular updates to that software and its virus signatures; and you need to close certain "back doors" which are open invitations to hackers.
If you don't have this, you're not alone. Even companies, whose businesses
rely every day on properly functioning computers, may have old or even obsolete security software which has not been updated for
years! This exposes the business, and possibly its customers' computers, to virus attacks, data theft, and remote control by hackers.
Check and Resolve Chronic Software Faults
We attempt to correct chronic errors which impair system operation. While these kinds of errors sometimes combine to cause serious problems, they more often exist as hidden causes of quirky behavior and sluggishness.
Establish Backups
To adapt an overused warning: There is never a question of
if you will need backups, but
when.
Because the intial setup requires extra planning and time, many people think backups are "too much trouble"; but the
real trouble begins when they discover that valuable data or critical system files are
gone -
forever - really, truely, permanently.
We'll handle the complex setup, if you are willing to handle the security and peace of mind!
Other System Adjustments For Stability
We don't write books, but for this topic we should. There are numerous system settings, each with its own effect, which add up to significant performance impact.
Before you heist your savings for hardware upgrades or a new computer, find out what your current computer can
really do.
